We left from the Bluff port in the dark, it was then a two hour journey towards Stewart island across the Foveaux straight. The captain anchored, started to burly up with tuna oil and chum then within an hour the first Great white showed, ripping the burly bag away. We jumped into the cage in the 9 degree water and stayed watching the sharks for almost two hours. Four Great whites showed up and checked us out, the largest was around 5 metres (as big as a station wagon). I felt comfortable in the cage but outside of the cage they owned everything, they’re amazing creatures and need to be respected! It was a crazy trip! Photos // Tim Thompson
